Departmental Bike Program
UF offers a Departmental Bicycle Program to encourage faculty and staff to use alternative modes of transportation on and around campus.
The Office of Sustainability has refurbished abandoned campus bicycles for a departmental bicycle program. Bicycles are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the beginning of each semester. The intent of the program is to promote bicycling as a transportation option and encourage faculty and staff to use alternative modes of transportation on and around campus. We encourage departmental contacts to develop a check-in and check-out system to allow multiple employees to share the bicycle, as a departmental vehicle.
Bicycles will become property of the participating departments and the department will assume all maintenance and repair for the bicycle. Bicycles will be a part of the annual vehicle inspection process of the university and they will be subject to inspection at any point. Departments are encouraged to use student government’s free bicycle repair at the Reitz Union for minor maintenance as needs arise.
A light set, U-lock, a helmet, and safety information will be provided with all bicycles. Helmets must be worn by bicycle users and all riders must be UF employees.
